Examines Alachua County and its immediate surroundings from a chronological perspective.

Examines Alachua County and its immediate surroundings from a chronological perspective, beginning when Florida was still connected to the African continent and ending in modern times. The book also describes the plants and animals that made this area their home after it emerged from the sea.

Pennsylvania native Francis Bill Zettler received his doctorate from Cornell University. A resident of Alachua County for 45 years, he retired as professor emeritus from the University of Floridas College of Agriculture in 2003. He is the recipient of several teaching awards, including UFs Teacher of the Year Award. His training in biology and interest in local history were the impetus for The Biohistory of Alachua County, Florida.
