Kenneth Grahamebegan writing in 1879 as an escape from the drudgery of his job at the Bank of England.The Wind in the Willowsstarted as a bedtime story for his son Alistair, and Grahame later continued the story in letters to his son. The book was published in 1908 and has never been out of print.
 
IllustratorRobert Ingpenstudied illustration and book design at The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. In 1986 he received the Hans Christian Andersen Award for his contribution to children's literature, and he was recently honored with the Membership of the Order of Australia.
