When Dorothy Litwin stumbled across an autobiography she had written in high school, she felt inspired to update the last seventy-four years of her amazing life in Me, Myself & I. She was at Northwestern University's School of Speech in 1944 with classmates Charlton Heston, Paul Lynde, and Cloris Leachman when she first heard about television. She dropped out of college and helped to open WBKB, the first TV station in Chicago (and the third in the nation) and worked on Your Show of Shows, The Dave Garroway Show, and Kukla, Fran and Ollie. She later completed her college studies, graduating in 1979 from Northeastern Illinois University.
After raising four sons with her beloved husband Al, she became the Zelig of Skokie when she started Centre East for the Performing Arts. She worked behind the scenes with hundreds of celebrities--she helped Billy Crystal jump-start his career through one simple act and worked on the filming of Risky Business with a young Tom Cruise. She helped raise millions of dollars to build the North Shore Center to replace the old Centre East before she retired.
Even in retirement, she worked with other seniors to develop radio station WHRU (101.5 FM) which went on the air in the Huntley, Illinois, area in 2012. She was the director of programming and also creator of her own interview show, Getting to Know You.
In addition to her entertainment work, she traveled the world with Al and helped her four sons start three businesses. It's been a full life! Dorothy Litwin enjoys an active retirement in the northwestern suburbs of Chicago. Me, Myself & I is her first book.
