Interest in semiconductor electrochemistry has ex? panded rapidly in the past few years spurred on by the search for economic methods for solar energy conversion. Semiconductor electrochemistry and photoelectrochemistry is not, however, restricted to this single area of application. Over the same period there have been many interesting and exciting developments in other areas of semiconductor electrochemistry including the use of laser etching, electroreflectance studies and radiation electro? chemistry. All of these areas are among those covered by Pleskov and Gurevich in this book. Their text is a com? prehensive study of the electrochemistry and photoelec? trochemistry of semiconductors and as such should prove a worthy successor to 'Electrochemistry of Semiconductors' by Myamlin and Pleskov which, since its publication in 1967, has established itself as a standard reference text for workers in this field. In editing the English translation of the present text I have at all times attempted to maintain a clear, concise style while at the same time remaining true to the arguments and ideas of the authors.
