It all started with songs, with music.

For me, writing was not a precocious fondness.

I try now to sift through the recesses of my memory and I find nothing to indicate exactly that I wanted to express myself through the written word. To be more honest, and although it's not the ideal word for someone who is dedicated to reading, I was not even a bookworm beyond the children's stories that I received as presents (I adored Zipi and Zape).

Since I was a child, music has been calling me.

When I was a baby, my mother sang Zarzupela tunes to tame my rebellious character. Later she bought me a piano, and I received private classes at home. Not long ago, she said to me that she had wanted me to learn to play the piano not only for music but so it might improve my manual dexterity.

Then I tried to sing other people's songs, accompanying myself with a guitar and a few basic chords that were difficult for me to control due to my lack of ability. And then I was fervently listening to, and recording, hits from the radio onto cassette.

Never before my adolescence, living in those lands of Tenerife, had I needed to understand and express myself through writing.

It all started with music.

Tenerife--it was at that time that I had the urge to communicate what music meant to me. And there I was, buying records, and then a mixer, and I tried my hand at being a DJ, and I worked on the radio. And I wanted to have a rock band to melt my feelings with music and others. But that remained a fantasy, a dream. And so I started writing letters, poems, lyrics, and songs inspired by other songs, and by that time, I was living.

Here in this book, I offer a compilation of what I consider my best lyrics that reflect this trajectory, these songs (still!) waiting for a rock band.
