Neighbourhoods of Poverty is concerned with the spatial dimension of urban social exclusion and integration. It draws on research from twenty-two neighbourhoods in eleven European cities: Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Brussels, Antwerp, London, Birmingham, Berlin, Hamburg, Milan, Naples and Paris and addresses two questions:- How do different neighbourhoods have an impact upon the opportunities and perspectives of poor individuals and households?- Are these neighbourhood impacts conditioned by national and welfare state contexts, by the wider metropolitan structures and by specific neighbourhood characteristics?Various aspects of poverty, social exclusion and integration are brought together and provide a new assessment of the place of neighbourhood within these wider debates.List of Tables List of Figures Acknowledgements List of Contributors The Spatial Dimensions of Urban Social Exclusion and Integration; S.Musterd & A.Murie Berlin: Opportunities, Constraints and Strategies of the Urban Poor; A.Kapphan & H.Haeussermann Antwerp: Confronting the Social and Spatial; I.van Nieuwenhuyze & J.Vranken Amsterdam: Gender and Poverty; J.Droogleever Fortuijn & W.Ostendorf Hamburg: Contradicting Neighbourhood Effects on Poverty; M.Kronauer, P.Noller & B.Vogel Milan: Urban Poverty in a Wealthy City; A.Andreotti Rotterdam: Social Contracts in Poor Neighbourhoods: R.van Kempen Paris: Neighbourhood Identity as a Resource for the Urban Poor; E.Palomares & P.Simon London: Deprivation, Social Isolation and Regeneration; J.Beaumont Birmingham: Narratives of Neighbourhood Transition; P.Lee, A.Murie & R.Oosthuizen Naples: Unemployment and Spatial Exclusion; E.Morlicchio & E.Pugliese Brussels: Neighbourhoods as Generators of Integration; C.Kesteloot & P.Mistiaen European Cities: Neighbourhood Matters; A.Murie, S.Musterd & C.Kesteloot References IndexALBERTA ANDREOTTI Researcher and Sociologist, Department of Sociology, University of Milan-Bicocca, ItalyJUló#
