Sacred, transcendent qualities of sexuality have been part of the human experience from the earliest times and merit re-examination today since sex has lost much of its spiritual significance in Western society. This book explores several facets of sacred sex by studying its recorded history, reviewing current literature on transcendent and sacred sexuality, and examining the author?s sacred sexual experience and the experiences of three other women. Three key points emerge: sacred sex is simple and attainable by everyone; many people have already glimpsed sacred sexuality in their lives; and spiritual, transcendent sex is transformative emotionally, psychologically, spiritually, and relationally. Sexuality can be complicated as all matters involving people?s bodies and spirits can be, but rigorous study is not required to open oneself up to the experience of sacred sex. And once one opens up and walks through the door of transcendent sex, her or his life will never be the same! This analysis should be especially beneficial to readers, particularly women, interested in exploring both historic and personal connections between sexuality and spirituality.
