The book is founded on the stories told by the author's older relatives about their wartime exploits. How they were sent away to the countryside when the bombs started to fall and how different life was compared to Portsmouth and London. The older ones told some of their adventures in France and Germany. This book is based on the many stories. I have heard these during my earlier years, and it left a lasting impression on my mind. Some of it is true, while some of it is fiction. In part, the book is a tribute to the memory of the storytellers, now sadly long gone, whose stories gave me the inspiration to write.

The book tells the story of two twins as they journey from blissful childhood through the horrors of war and their friendships and loves they develop along the way. Set between 1939 and 1945, it will give the reader a very different view of life as a young adult from what can be experienced today.
